The Walt Disney World Deluxe Resort Difference

Three Categories of Disney Resort Hotels

For travelers who are considering a Walt Disney World vacation but who have never stayed on Disney property before,  the amount of information can be a little overwhelming. I am here to help with that and to ease any stress you may be feeling.

When it comes to choosing a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, there are three main categories from which to choose:

  • Value Resorts,
  • Moderate Resorts and
  • Deluxe Resorts.

There is also a fourth category–the Deluxe Villas, which I will touch upon later.

My focus when it comes to Disney travel is on Disney’s Deluxe Resorts. In over 45 years of regular annual travel to Walt Disney World I have stayed exclusively in Disney Deluxe Resort. Since I have never stayed at a Disney Value or Moderate Resort, those categories are not my area of expertise.

If you are the type of traveler who typically books upscale (four or five-star) hotels when you travel (or if you simply want to treat your family to the best that Disney has to offer), then you will likely be interested in Disney’s Deluxe Resort hotels for your Walt Disney World vacation. I am here to help you create a magical Disney vacation experience, including Disney Deluxe Resort hotel selection, building your custom itinerary for the week, providing Disney dining recommendations and helping with any special events or experiences that you may wish to consider.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s take a closer look at the Walt Disney World Deluxe Resort hotels and what sets them apart from Disney’s Value and Moderate Resort categories.

Disney Deluxe Resorts Bring You Closer to the Magic

Location, location, location.

Disney’s Deluxe Resorts are designed to bring you closer to the magic of Walt Disney World. Disney’s Deluxe resorts tend to be closer to a theme park (or other major Disney attraction, such as the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment area), giving you premium and more convenient access to at least one Disney theme park (in some cases two). You will rely less on Disney’s transportation system versus Value and Moderate properties, making it easier and quicker to get back to your hotel for a mid-day break, for example.

So the convenience of location is definitely a major factor in considering a Walt Disney World Deluxe resort property.

Upscale Room Amenities

As you would expect, the rooms at Disney’s Deluxe Resorts also tend to be more upscale compared to the two other categories. The rooms are larger in most cases, they will have bigger beds of higher quality and the fit and finish of the room itself will also be of a higher and more refined design standard. However, the trademark Disney theming is not lost as a result of this and Disney fans should expect to be quite pleased with the approach that the Disney Imagineers have taken in designing the rooms at Disney’s Deluxe Resorts.

Enhanced Amenities at Walt Disney World Deluxe Resort Properties

It’s not just the rooms where you will notice a difference; the resort properties themselves are also a cut or two above what you will find at Disney Value and Moderate properties (even though both of those are also nice). In addition to more finely-detailed and highly-themed buildings and structures, the grounds of the Deluxe Resorts are more in line with what you would expect from an upscale property. There will be more and better dining options, more shopping options and the pool areas tend to be more grand (and there may be more of them).

A Word About Walt Disney World Deluxe Villas

The Walt Disney World Deluxe Villas are an extension of the Deluxe Resorts in most cases, along with two standalone Deluxe Villa Resorts. These accommodations are part of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) timeshare program, but they are available  for booking by non-member guests pending availability.

You can think of Disney Deluxe Villas as Disney condominiums, complete with kitchen amenities and laundry facilities (washers and dryers are right in the unit for anything bigger than a studio). Room sizes range from studios to Grand Villas, which are multi-bedroom and can sleep nine to 12 people. Deluxe villas are worth considering for larger families who want to stay in one unit, or for those who like the idea of having kitchen and laundry facilities, or who just want the extra space to spread out.
