Disney After Dark: 5 Fun Things to Do at Night at Walt Disney World

Looking to have a little fun at Walt Disney World after the sun goes down? Here are five fun things that you can do at night at Walt Disney World.

Primeval Whirl at night in Disney's Animal Kingdom Park.

Ultimate Nights of Adventure VIP Tour

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park is a pretty cool place during the day, but it’s even more cool to explore at night. And there’s no better way to do that than by signing up for the Ultimate Nights of Adventure VIP Tour of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.

This is basically an escorted VIP adventure of the park where you will be whisked from place to place and enjoy FastPass+ entry to all of the top attractions and even get priority seating for the nighttime spectacular, Rivers of Light. Don’t worry though, snacks, beverages and even a little souvenir of your adventure are all included. This one is great fun for the whole family.

Walt Disney World Monorail at night.

The Walt Disney World monorail is your chariot for the Highway in the Sky Dine Around.

Highway in the Sky Dine Around

The Highway in the Sky Dine Around is Disney’s version of bar hopping the Magic Kingdom Resort Hotels by monorail. I probably don’t need to say much more than that, but here are a few more details.

This adventure begins with a cocktail and appetizers at The Wave in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You then board the monorail for a stop at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for more goodies, followed by a stop at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort where you will enjoy a snack at Citricos. Don’t fill up too much, however, because the best is yet to come. The Highway in the Sky Dine Around ends off back at Disney’s Contemporary Resort where you’ll enjoy VIP seating to watch the Happily Ever After fireworks taking place in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. You won’t go hungry or thirsty here either, because drinks and desserts are at your disposal to close out the evening.

This one is a good idea, but it does currently have a few kinks that need to be ironed out. Read my full review of the Highway in the Sky Dine Around.

Kilimanjaro Safari at Night

Disney After Dark: a Disney safari at night is a very interesting place to be.

Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you love animals then there’s probably nothing cooler than heading out after dark on a safari filled with wild animals. Right?

The Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (not the Park) will take you on a savanna tour in an open-sided safari vehicle, where you’ll be on the lookout for over 30 varieties of African wildlife. How will you see these animals in the dark? Well, you’ll be using some very cool night vision goggles that will be supplied for your adventure. This is pretty much the coolest and most unique way to see species including zebras, giraffes, gazelles, antelopes and many more as they roam freely on the savanna.

Check with Disney reservations for complete details and current times for this awesome nighttime adventure.

Disney After Dark: Electrical Water Pageant

Authentic Original: the Electrical Water Pageant has been sailing the waters around Disney’s Magic Kingdom since the very beginning.

Electrical Water Pageant

One of the most classic of all Walt Disney World nighttime activities takes place every night on the waters of Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Every night since the earliest days of Walt Disney World in 1971, the Electrical Water Pageant has been sailing these waters after dark and entertaining guests of the five Disney Resort properties dotting the shores of Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon.

Sort of like a giant Lite Brite on barges, the actual light show has remained virtually unchanged for roughly 50 years and is a true piece of Disneyana. It was originally created to celebrate the opening of Disney’s Polynesian Village in 1971 and has been running nightly ever since. It’s a welcome relief of fun simplicity in a world of ever increasing high tech productions. So if you’re wondering why it looks so “simple” by today’s tech terms, that is why. If you’re staying at any of the Deluxe Resorts in this area or Fort Wilderness on Bay Lake, be sure to check for the time of the nightly performance and head down to the water to enjoy a true piece of Walt Disney World history.

Chip and Dale Campfire Singalong

The Chip and Dale campfire singalong at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is another authentic original Walt Disney World experience.

Campfire and a Movie

The nightly campfire ritual is another Disney classic that goes back right to the earliest days of Walt Disney World. Every Deluxe Resort hotel at Walt Disney World (and some in lower categories) offer guests a free outdoor nightly Disney feature film under the stars, coupled with a marshmallow or s’mores roast over a campfire. It’s free and fun family entertainment and when you’re staying at a luxury Disney property and it’s right onsite for you to enjoy. Even if you don’t want to stay for the movie, be sure to venture over to the fire pit at your resort at sunset approaches (check with a Cast Member for the exact time for your Resort). For an even more immersive version of this, try the Chip and Dale Campfire Sing-a-long at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Even More Fun Things to Do in Disney After Dark

Of course there are many more fun things that you can do at night, from walking the “streets” of Disney Springs, to enjoying a Dessert Party in a Disney theme park, or gathering the family to watch one the spectacular nighttime shows inside each of the four parks of Walt Disney World Resort. If you just want to chill and relax, head to the lobby bar of your Deluxe Resort hotel (while the kids enjoy Disney entertainment on the lobby video screens).

Disney After Dark can be a very fun place. So don’t forget to add a few nighttime entertainment experiences to the your luxury Disney vacation.
