What’s there to do at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge?
The Must Do Experiences in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu — the Galaxy’s Edge
Whether you visit at Walt Disney World in Florida or Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Galaxy’s Edge is the most incredible and immersive land that Disney Imagineers have ever created.
With more than 14 acres of Batuu terrain to explore, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is also the largest single-themed land in Disney Parks history. This far off land has its own unique language and is packed with incredible storytelling that will quickly envelop you into your very own Star Wars adventure. There’s a lot to see and do in Batuu, but if you’re wondering about the absolute must-dos, here is my list of best things to see and do in Galaxy’s Edge.
What is there to do at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge?
Take hold of the controls on the “Fastest Hunk of Junk in the Galaxy” in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
The Millennium Falcon is a Star Wars icon and Galaxy’s Edge can make your dream come true if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to pilot this legendary ship. In Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, you and your family can take control of the cockpit in one of six available seats. There are two positions each for pilots, gunners and flight engineers. You’re on a mission to deliver smuggled goods while avoiding any unforeseen delays, shall we say. The ride is very interactive and how you do your job will directly affect your crew’s experience.
Stop for a Drink at Oga’s Cantina
This is one experience that I highly recommend. Oga’s Cantina is the pulsing heartbeat of Black Spire Outpost. It’s a place where even the blaster-bolt scorches on the walls tell a story. Drop by to enjoy tasty exotic beverages (alcoholic and non alcoholic) served in unique glassware, while you listen to pumping beats of DJ R-3X, the former droid pilot from Star Tours. Whether sidling up to the cantina’s counter or sliding into one of the establishment’s back booths, this is the best place to catch up on local gossip, make a new friend or form a new alliance. If you like a loud bar scene, you’re gonna love Oga’s.
Stroll the Alluring Black Spire Outpost Marketplace
This is one shopping are that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before in a Disney Park. Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is home to a bustling marketplace, full of vendors showcasing unique wares and cool finds from across the galaxy. Pick up authentic Batuuan attire with a stop at Black Spire Outfitters, start a collection of toys at Toydarian Toymakers, or peek into the cages in the Creature Stall. The marketplace’s twisting pathway is just waiting to be explored, with something new to see around every turn. Oh and you’ll also find some restrooms in here, just as a little tip for the first timers.
Drink a Glass of the Legendary Blue Milk
Ever since Luke Skywalker sat down for a family meal in “Star Wars: A New Hope,” Star Wars fans have had this burning question: What does Blue Milk taste like? Now at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, they finally have their answer. The Milk Stand in Black Spire Outpost offers both Blue Milk and Green Milk, delicious frozen blends with dashes of fruity accents. Hint, the Blue Milk is better than the green and the frozen version is better than the non frozen.
Grab a Bite to Go at Ronto Roasters
Whether it’s the large podracing engine hanging overhead, the former smelter droid turning a spit of meats or just the savory smells wafting by, Ronto Roasters is sure to grab your attention if you’re hungry while wandering Galaxy’s Edge. This quick-service outlet offers mouth-watering Ronto Wraps and sweet-or-spicy Nuna Turkey Jerky, as well as a selection of specialty beverages. The food here is pretty good, so don’t be shy to pull up a chair.
Create a Custom Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop
Building a lightsaber is a rite of passage in the life of a Jedi, as this elegant weapon from a more civilized age is attuned to its owner through the Force. Guests in Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers can feel the presence of the Force as they craft their own lightsabers, customizing them with various hilts, décor and the all-important kyber crystals. Hint: elsewhere in Galaxy’s Edge you can also buy high quality lightsabers from some of your favorite Star Wars heroes and villains — with a level of quality exactly like what you’ll creat in Savi’s (but for a much lower price point).
Create a Custom Droid at the Droid Depot
Droids can be some of the most loyal companions in the entire Star Wars galaxy and now you can have the chance to build and customize your own astromech at the Droid Depot. Here you can pick pieces and parts off a conveyor belt to construct one of two core models (R-series or BB-series), which can then interact with elements throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Also in Galaxy’s Edge you can buy your very own life size R2D2 for a mere 25,000 credits (one credit in Batuu = one U.S. dollar). They’ll ship it to you for free anywhere in North America within three months of purchase. How can you pass up that deal?
Pay Attention to the Details
Since Black Spire Outpost is a Disney creation (even though it feels nothing like any other Disney land), there are a lot of details and hidden Easter Eggs that diehard Star Wars fans will love discovering. Keep your eyes peeled for the little nuances, such as the number painted onto the Black Spire Outpost garbage receptacles. Star Wars fans will appreciate the clever reference to Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope (1977). Luke, Leia, Solo and Chewie find themselves trapped in a trash compactor on the Death Star. That trash compactor was number 3263827, which can be found on Black Spire Outpost trash cans. Very clever and true Star Wars fans will appreciate the reference (if they notice it).
Be on the Lookout for Kylo Ren, Rey and Other Star Wars Characters
As you wander Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, don’t be surprised if you encounter some familiar faces. Whether its heroes of the Resistance or agents of the First Order, just about anyone may be roaming the streets of Batuu. It’s been said that Supreme Leader Kylo Ren lands at Black Spire Outpost and gathers Stormtroopers to help him hunt for Resistance fighter Rey. You may also encounter Millennium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca or Resistance spy Vi Moradi. So keep your wits about you (and your camera ready).
