A Bourbon Cocktail Inspired by the red rocks and story of Big Thunder Mountain
Here at the Grand One Lounge in the The Underground at Disney Resort North, I create unique signature cocktails inspired by Disney attractions, parks and resorts.
The Big Thunder is inspired by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World. This cocktail is bourbon based of course and contains fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (a nod to the Gold Dust Saloon on the ride), cranberry juice (for the red rock ambiance), agave (a fitting desert sweetener) and Peychaud’s Bitters to round out the drink. It is garnished with fresh sage in keeping with the theme.
I use Bulleit Bourbon in the Big Thunder.
Ingredients
1.5 ounces bourbon (I use Bulleit for the Big Thunder)
1 ounce fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
1 ounce cranberry juice
1 ounce agave syrup
three splashes Peychaud’s Bitters
three fresh sage leaves to garnish

The Big Thunder is a refreshing bourbon cocktail that’s just a little sweet and make a perfectly refreshing drink at any time of the year.

The Big Thunder is not overly sweet, but just sweet enough to make it a refreshing sipper at any time of the year. You can bump it up to a full 2 ounces of bourbon if you want to add a little more kick to your Big Thunder experience.
